One of the most remarkable achievements of Paris 2024 was its distinction as the highest quality Olympic Games ever held, according to competition performance rankings. The Games achieved an unprecedented score of 198,320, surpassing the previous records set by Tokyo 2020 (197,115) and Rio 2016 (195,953).

This ranking is a testament to the exceptional performances delivered by athletes across a diverse range of sports, as well as the meticulous planning and execution that characterized the event.

Record-Breaking Achievements in Athletics

The athletics competitions at Paris 2024 were particularly noteworthy, with a total of 27 countries winning gold medals, breaking the previous record by two. This broad distribution of success highlights the increasing depth of talent in athletics on a global scale.

Dominica, Pakistan, and Saint Lucia made their mark on the athletics medal table for the first time, thanks to historic gold medal victories by Thea LaFond in the women's triple jump, Arshad Nadeem in the men's javelin, and Julien Alfred in the women's 100m. Botswana also celebrated its first-ever Olympic gold in any sport, with Letsile Tebogo triumphing in the men's 200m.

Historic Firsts for Emerging Nations

Paris 2024 saw a record number of 43 countries earning medals in athletics, matching the achievement of Tokyo 2020 as the largest in over two decades. Furthermore, 75 countries finished in the top eight, underscoring the global nature of the competition and the widespread talent in the sport.

Global Participation: A Widespread Talent Showcase

The depth of excellence was further highlighted by the achievements of 26 athletes who won multiple medals, including the Netherlands' Femke Bol, who secured gold in the mixed 4x400m relay, silver in the women's 4x400m, and bronze in the women's 400m hurdles.

Her compatriot Sifan Hassan also excelled, claiming gold in the women's marathon and bronze in both the 5000m and 10,000m. The USA's Gabby Thomas was another standout, winning gold in the women's 200m, 4x100m, and 4x400m events.

Sustainability and Legacy: Paris 2024's Lasting Impact
