A'ja Wilson Remains Focused On Team Success Amid MVP Race Concerns Over Aces' Record

A'ja Wilson is not worried about the Las Vegas Aces' inconsistent record impacting her MVP candidacy. After scoring 37 points in a recent game, she prioritises team performance over individual accolades.

A'ja Wilson remains unfazed by concerns that the Las Vegas Aces' current performance might affect her chances of retaining the WNBA MVP title. In a recent game, Wilson delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 37 points to lead the Aces to a 90-86 victory over the Dallas Wings. This score ties for the highest in a WNBA game this season. She also secured 10 rebounds, marking her eighth double-double of 2025.

Wilson has consistently excelled this year, achieving four games with at least 30 points. Her recent performances include scoring 34 points against the Golden State Valkyries last Saturday. Despite her impressive form, the Aces have struggled with consistency, holding an even record of 11-11. This has led to speculation that Wilson might face challenges in the MVP race.

Wilson Focuses on Team Amid MVP Concerns

The league MVP in 2020, 2022, and 2024, Wilson averages 22.3 points per game this year. Only Napheesa Collier surpasses her with an average of 23.2 points per game. However, Wilson is more focused on team success than individual accolades. "I don't really care what people have got to say," she stated. "My biggest thing is making sure that the Aces are doing what we need to do."

Wilson is set to participate in Saturday's All-Star Game as part of Caitlin Clark's team from Indiana Fever. However, her participation will depend on a medical assessment after she fell on her wrist during Wednesday's match. She had previously missed a game against the Washington Mystics due to a similar injury.

Las Vegas has managed consecutive wins four times this season but has yet to achieve a streak of three or more victories. Head coach Becky Hammon emphasises learning from close finishes like their recent game against Dallas where they narrowly avoided defeat after two missed three-point attempts by their opponents.

"We've got to learn to be better," Hammon remarked about their performance. "It hasn't always correlated to wins... but there's a lot of little progress." The team aims for improvement and consistency as they move forward into upcoming matches and events.

As the season progresses, Wilson's focus remains on ensuring that every time people see them play, they understand the standard they uphold and bring it every single night.
