WNBA: A'ja Wilson Suffers Wrist Injury In Aces' Loss To Liberty

In a recent WNBA match, A'ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces sustained a right wrist injury during their game against the New York Liberty. Despite her efforts, the Aces fell short with an 87-78 defeat.

Sabrina Ionescu's impressive 28-point performance propelled the New York Liberty to an 87-78 win against the Las Vegas Aces. The Aces faced a setback when their key player, A'ja Wilson, suffered a right wrist injury in the first half. Wilson fell hard midway through the second quarter and spent several minutes on the ground, surrounded by her teammates. She did not return to the game after reappearing on the bench with her wrist wrapped.

With the score tied at 72, New York surged ahead with an eight-point run led by Ionescu, who also contributed eight assists and eight rebounds. The Liberty maintained their lead by hitting crucial free throws in the final moments. During the first half, New York held a slim lead, thanks to Ionescu's 10 points and Leonie Fiebich's eight points. Their advantage grew to nine points at its peak.

Despite trailing for much of the game, Las Vegas remained competitive. Jackie Young's last-minute layup gave them a narrow 42-40 lead at halftime. Young was Las Vegas' top scorer with 19 points, while NaLyssa Smith and Chelsea Gray each added 11 points. However, their last successful basket came with over five minutes left in the game.

In another thrilling match, Shakira Austin scored 15 points for the Washington Mystics, including two decisive free throws with just 2.8 seconds remaining. This secured an 81-79 victory over the Chicago Sky at George Mason University. Austin had earlier missed two free throws but redeemed herself with a driving layup that put Washington ahead at 79-77.

Angel Reese tied the game at 79 with two free throws before Austin was fouled on a drive and converted both shots to clinch the win. Rachel Banham's half-court attempt missed as time expired. Sonia Citron added eight of her 13 points in the fourth quarter for Washington (9-10), while Kiki Iriafen recorded her sixth double-double this season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Reese stood out for Chicago (5-13), finishing with an impressive 22 points and 15 rebounds. She extended her WNBA record to six consecutive games with at least 15 rebounds and achieved her sixth straight double-double by halftime with a tally of 10 points and rebounds each.
