Tempo Clinches First WNBA Commissioner Cup Win As Tempo Tops Sky
The WNBA Commissioners Cup group stage featured two clear results, as the expansion Toronto Tempo beat the Chicago Sky 85-68 and the Los Angeles Sparks handled the Portland Fire 89-72, shifting conference standings in both brackets.
Toronto, now 6-5 overall, claimed a first Commissioners Cup win and climbed to 1-1 in the Eastern Conference standings. Brittney Sykes powered the Tempo with 25 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Nyara Sabally added 15 points and six boards.

The loss dropped Chicago to 4-7 overall and 1-2 in Commissioners Cup play. Azura Stevens delivered a season-best performance for the Sky, recording 18 points and 10 rebounds, yet Chicago still struggled to keep pace with Toronto’s balanced offence.
Megan Gustafson led Portland with 16 points and a season-best 12 rebounds, but the Fire slipped to 6-7 overall after their season-high third straight defeat and fourth loss in five games across all competitions.
The Commissioners Cup runs from 1-17 June with 49 scheduled games, and the top team from each conference reaches the championship on 30 June. Portland, the Seattle Storm (0-3) and Connecticut Sun (0-2) remain without a Cup win so far.
