Timberwolves Capitalise On Curry's Absence To Defeat Warriors And Tie NBA Playoff Series

In a decisive game, the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Golden State Warriors 117-93, leveraging Stephen Curry's absence. Julius Randle led with 24 points and 11 assists, while Anthony Edwards added 20 points. The victory ties the playoff series at one game each.

The Minnesota Timberwolves secured a 117-93 win over the Golden State Warriors, levelling their playoff series at one game each. Julius Randle led the charge with 24 points and 11 assists. The Warriors felt the absence of Stephen Curry, who missed the game due to a left hamstring strain. This injury is expected to keep him sidelined until at least next week.

Anthony Edwards contributed 20 points for the Timberwolves, overcoming an earlier injury scare. The team significantly improved their three-point shooting, making 16 out of 37 attempts compared to their previous game. Jonathan Kuminga and Trayce Jackson-Davis were notable for the Warriors, scoring 18 and 15 points respectively, with a combined shooting accuracy of 14 for 17.

Timberwolves Defeat Warriors to Even Series

The Warriors struggled offensively without Curry's presence. Coach Steve Kerr tried various strategies, using 14 players throughout the game. Despite these efforts, the team couldn't find much success against the Timberwolves' strong defence. Buddy Hield and Brandin Podziemski were kept quiet by Minnesota's defensive efforts.

Golden State recorded their lowest first-quarter score in playoff history since Game 6 of the 2016 NBA Finals against Cleveland. They managed only 15 points in this quarter. Jimmy Butler's three-pointer finally ended a 13-0 run by Minnesota that had started the game.

Draymond Green received his fifth technical foul of the playoffs after elbowing Naz Reid following a foul call against him. This incident brought him closer to an automatic one-game suspension. Green was visibly upset about the call and continued arguing with official Tony Brothers during a timeout.

Stephen Curry intervened to prevent Green from being ejected, approaching him at the scorer's table to calm him down and guide him back to the bench. The absence of Curry not only affected Golden State's offence but also highlighted leadership challenges on court.

Kuminga, drafted seventh overall in 2021, provided some spark off the bench despite falling out of rotation during parts of the regular season. However, even with his contribution, Golden State lacked offensive depth without Curry leading them.

The Timberwolves capitalised on Curry’s absence by effectively neutralising key shooters from Golden State while maintaining control over Butler’s gameplay. Their defensive strategy proved crucial in securing this victory and tying up the series.
