India's golden boy and javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will begin his quest to land the country's first yellow metal at the World Athletics Championships 2023 on Friday (August 25). starting with the qualification event in Budapest.
The 25-year-old, who won a silver in the last edition, will look to qualify for the final, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday (August 27). In Oregon 22, Chopra held the lead till the final round of throws, when Grenada Anderson Peters clinched the gold.

Now, the Tokyo Olympic gold medallist will look to breach the 90-metre mark and land a gold in the World Championships as he enters the Budapest 2023 event in good form, having won the two legs of Diamond League.
Apart from Chopra, DP Manu and Kishore Jena will also represent India in the javelin throw event. Manu will be competing in Group A along with Chopra, while Jena will be in Group B.
The Indian javelin throwers will face challenge from the likes of reigning World Athletics champion Anderson Peters of Grenada and the athlete with the best effort this season - Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch among others.

The automatic qualifying mark is 83.00 (Q), if not they need to be at least in the best 12 qualify for the javelin throw event final. All three Indian athletes have breached 83 metres this season. So, they are expected to qualify.
