World champ Semenya a hermaphrodite, claims report

By Super Admin

Melbourne, Sep 11: The 18-year-old Caster Semenya may be stripped off her gold medal and asked to end her track career as her gender tests have reportedly revealed that she is a hermaphrodite.

Tests were carried out on Semenya after she claimed the gold medal in the women's 800 meters race at World Championship's in Berlin.

The tests results show that the athlete suffers from a chromosomal abnormality due to which she has both male and female sexual organs, reports Australian daily, Sydney Morning Herald.

This means that she can produce male hormone testosterone as detected earlier.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) that has received the results refuses to confirm this until a panel of independent scientific experts verify the findings.

When Semenya won the 800 meters with ease at Berlin there were speculations over her masculine appearance and gender tests were called for.
