World champions, Spain to meet Mexico

By Abdul Nisar

Madrid, Aug 5: World champions Spain will face Mexico in an international friendly at the Azteca Stadium on Wednesday, Aug 11.

The World Cup hero Andres Iniesta and Liverpool striker Fernando Torres were out of the team due to injuries. The team coach Vicente del Bosque has been forced to make several modifications to the World Cup winning squad.

Young midfielder Javi Martinez was omitted after being called up to the U-21 side for a European Championship qualifier against Finland.

Goalkeeper Pepe Reina and centre-back Raul Albiol were also been excluded from the squad.

Villarreal defensive midfielder Bruno Soriano and left-back Nacho Monreal were called in to the final squad.

The friendly match will be Spain's first match after winning the World Cup in South Africa.
