Yamini wins gold with new games record in 58 kgs weightlifting

Pune, Oct 15 (UNI) Yamini S grabbed another gold for India in the women's 58 kg weightlifting event breaking the games record on the way to glory on the fourth day of the third edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games here today.

Yamini started off with a games record in the snatch with a lift of 72 kgs and then broke her own new record with lifts of 76 kgs and 80 kgs.

Liku Maria of Fiji the eventual silver medalist was in second place after the snatch round with a lift of 70 kgs, while Carolanne Lanouette of Canada the eventual bronze medalist was in fourth place with a best lift of 64 kgs.

In the clean and jerk round, Yamini continued to break the games record with every lift of 92 kgs, 96 kgs and 98 kgs.

Carolanne pushed herself into medal condition with a best lift of 85 kgs, while Maria had a lift of 84 kgs.

The gold went to Yamini with a games record of a total lift of 178 kgs, while Maria held on to the silver with a total lift of 154 kgs, with Carolanne pushing herself to get the bronze with a total lift of 149 kgs.
