Yogeshwar Dutt mulls over return in Tokyo Olympics 2020

Bengaluru, Nov 12: Ace Indian wrestler and Olympics silver medalist Yogeshwar Dutt is mulling over a return to the sport at Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Yogeshwar displayed a dismal performance at the Rio Olympics 2016, where he bowed out of the tournament in the very first round. He, however, has not yet taken the final decision on the matter.

But according to his coach Narendra Hillal, the 34-year old wrestler wants to assess his performance at the 2018 Asian Games and then take a final decision whether he will compete in Tokyo Olympics.

Hilal, speaking over the phone from Sonipat in Haryana on Friday said: “Yogeshwar has desire to compete in Tokyo Olympics. The key reason behind the willingness is that his injured knee has completely cured now.

"That he has against started training almost four to five hours a day now. But before taking final decision, Yogeshwar wants to judge his fitness and match condition in the 2018 Asian Games.

"If he can win a medal there then it sure that Yogeshwar will break his decision of retiring from participating in Olympics and compete in Tokyo Olympics."

The wrestler is now busy with his forthcoming marriage. It has been scheduled to be held in his village Bhainswal Kalan in Sonipat on 14th January.

Amidst the business, Yogeshwar when asked about his future plans on Friday, clarified: “Yes, due to marriage I am now busy and that is why I am training only thrice a week.

"But after it gets over I will resume full-fledged training. And as I fit so why should not I continue participating in the international championships like Olympics? So, let us become positive."

The wrestler is still doubtful on his participation in the forthcoming Pro-Wrestling League, starting from 1st January.

He said: “This league would have helped me a lot to make my assessment. Due to marriage, I might not be available. Still, I am trying to manage whether it can be possible to take part in the League."
