Youth Nationals End On A Record-Breaking High In Ludhiana

Several meet and national records tumbled on the final day of the 21st National Youth Athletics Championships 2026 at Ludhiana's Guru Nanak Stadium.

Boys high jump meet record of 2.08m was the oldest of all. It was set by Rajesh Kaliramana in 2005 in Bengaluru. Himanshu Kumar of Jharkhand entered the record books by winning high jump gold with a meet record of 2.09m.

Zubin Gohain of Assam also improved the previous meet record but settled for the silver medal (2.09m).

Meet record in boys' and girls' javelin throw was also erased. Madhya Pradesh's Krishan Chandra won gold in boys' javelin throw with a distance of 79.92m, better than the previous meet record of 77.41m set by Rohit Yadav in 2018 in Vadodara.

West Bengal's Misti Karmakar won girls javelin throw gold with a distance of 52.84m, to improve the previous meet record 51.84m set by Deepika in 2022.

Yash Mulik and Nupura Holla were declared the best male and female athletes, respectively, of the three-day competition.

Maharashtra's Bhoomika Nehate delivered a sensational performance at the Youth Nationals, clocking 23.92s to smash the meet record in the women's 200m. And there's more, Nehate broke the 24-second barrier for the very first time in her career.

Haryana topped the medal tally with four gold, seven silver and three bronze medals. Maharashtra finished second with eight medals, including three gold, while Karnataka finished third with three gold and two silver medals.

110m hurdles: Yash Mulik (Maharashtra) 13.40 seconds (NR, previous best 13.47 seconds), Anshu Yadav (Uttar Pradesh) 13.54 seconds, Kripal Karthic K (Tamil Nadu) 13.71 seconds.

Javelin throw: Krishan Chandra (Madhya Pradesh) 79.92m (MR, previous best 77.41m), Pushpak Nel Wade (Karnataka) 76.09m, Manjeet Kumar (Rajasthan) 74.45m.

High jump: Himanshu Kumar (Jharkhand) 2.09m (MR, previous best 2.08m), Zubin Gohain (Assam) 2.09m, Sakthivel VN (Tamil Nadu) 2.07m.

Long jump: Prem Raj (Bihar) 7.58m (MR, previous best), Sanoyaj Mondal (West Bengal) 7.21m, Sukhvir Singh (Uttar Pradesh) 7.10m.

Medley 1,000m: Telangana 1:54.54 seconds, Tamil Nadu 1:54.84 seconds, Kerala 1:55.15 seconds.

Girls

200m: Bhoomika Nehate (Maharashtra) 23.92 seconds (MR, previous best 23.94 seconds), Sahaya Jemima (Tamil Nadu) 24.54 seconds, Saawari Kulkarni (Maharashtra) 24.67 seconds.

100m hurdles: Nupura Holla (Karnataka) 13.78 seconds (MR, previous best 14.06 seconds), Rajashree VB (Tamil Nadu) 14.23 seconds, Khushi Patel (Uttar Pradesh) 14.42 seconds.

Shot put: Anjali (Haryana) 16.02m, Jasmine Kaur (Punjab) 15.62m, Drona Choudhary (Rajasthan) 15.40m.
