Yuvy needs to hone his bowling skills: Sohail

By Staff

New Delhi, Nov 22 (UNI) Dashing southpaw Yuvraj Singh is in the midst of a tremendous run of form but its his bowling that may do the trick and fetch him a berth in the Indian Test squad believes former Pakistan captain Aamer Sohail.

Sohail, who played a big part in Pakistan's World Cup triumph in 1992, said, ''If his good run of form, of late, can't get him a place in the Test squad then you can imagine how tough the competition is?'' ''The only way he can cement his place in the Test squad is to concentrate on his bowling,'' he said.

The 41-year-old southpaw talking to UNI said, ''He has to bowl regularly in the nets and give his captain the confidence to rely on him as the fifth bowling option in the Test squad.'' ''Thats the only way he can make himself indispensable for his captain.'' The cricketer turned commentator, famous for his on-field tiff with Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad in the 1996 World Cup quarter-final match in Bangalore, showered praise on the Indian team.

''At the moment the competition is stiff to get a place in the Indian Test squad its good for Indian cricket,'' he asserts.

When asked to comment on the exclusion of hard hitting all-rounder Afridi in the Pakistan Test team, Sohail said, ''I think its a good move taken by the Pakistani selectors, since he was out of form.'' ''His exclusion gives the Pakistan skipper the luxury of playing a regular batsman or a spiner, instead of a makeshift arrangement in Afridi,'' he concluded.
