Zion Williamson Scores 22 Points In Return As Pelicans Lose To Timberwolves

Zion Williamson returned from injury to score 22 points for the New Orleans Pelicans against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Despite his efforts, including six rebounds and four assists, the Pelicans lost the game, continuing their struggles this season.

Zion Williamson made a notable return after a lengthy injury break, scoring 22 points in the New Orleans Pelicans' loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Despite missing 27 games due to a hamstring injury from early November against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Williamson impressed at the Smoothie King Center. He played 28 minutes, adding six rebounds and four assists, marking his fourth 20-point game this season.

Williamson's performance included a remarkable 360-degree dunk, showcasing his athleticism. When asked about it, he said, "It's just another day at the office." He expressed confidence in his recovery, stating, "I definitely feel like my legs are already under me." His focus during rehab was intense, and he felt he had gained rather than lost rhythm.

Zion Williamson's Strong Return Not Enough for Pelicans

Pelicans coach Willie Green praised Williamson's influence on the game. "It's incredible, his ability to impact the basketball game when he's on the floor," Green remarked. Although Williamson showed some rust, Green noted it was one of his best performances after such a long absence. The coach credited Zion for his dedication during recovery.

Green also mentioned that Williamson was playing with limited minutes and expressed enthusiasm about seeing more of him alongside Dejounte Murray. Murray led the team with 29 points in their first game together. "That was a fun segment," Green commented on their initial court experience as teammates.

The Pelicans entered the game against Minnesota following two consecutive wins but were unable to maintain their momentum. Their record now stands at 7-30 overall and 5-15 at home. Before these victories over the Washington Wizards, they had suffered an eleven-game losing streak.

New Orleans is set to face the Portland Trail Blazers next at home on Wednesday. The team hopes to build on recent successes and improve their standing as they continue their season with renewed energy from Williamson's return.
