Alex Albon expressed his satisfaction with the performance of his Williams car after securing sixth place in the Australian Grand Prix qualifying. He noted a significant improvement compared to last year. Albon's impressive performance saw him outpace his new teammate, starting on the third row for Sunday's race. He will line up behind McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, as well as Max Verstappen, George Russell, and Yuki Tsunoda at Albert Park Circuit.
Former Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz also made it to Q3, finishing tenth in his debut weekend with Williams. Reflecting on the qualifying session, Albon said, "We were experimenting with all kinds of different things and, honestly, even to be able to say that we can experiment, knowing that we had a bit of pace to try different things is something quite new to me, to be honest." He added that being ahead of Ferraris was a great achievement.

Albon highlighted the team's progress over the winter months. "Great for us," he remarked about their improved position compared to last year. The team finished second-from-bottom in the constructors' standings last season with only 17 points. This year’s car feels like a completely different machine, offering more grip and flow through corners.
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton qualified seventh and eighth respectively, followed by Pierre Gasly in Alpine. The track's grip and flowing corners provided an enjoyable experience for drivers. Albon commented on the physical demands of the circuit: "This track has got so much grip and the corners are so flowing. It's a nice one; your neck starts to feel it straight away."
Carlos Sainz described Saturday's qualifying as a positive day for Williams. He acknowledged it was the best outcome they could have hoped for under current conditions. Sainz admitted he struggled with finding lap time using soft tyres during Q3 but remained optimistic about future improvements.
The season opener drew attention primarily towards Carlos Sainz; however, Albon’s performance stood out as he surpassed expectations by outperforming his teammate during qualifying. His remarks reflect confidence in Williams’ potential this season as they aim for better results than their previous campaign.
