Arvid Lindblad Waves Indian Flag at Red Bull Moto Jam in Greater Noida, Sends F1 Fans Into Frenzy

For a few roaring minutes in Greater Noida, it felt like Formula 1 had returned home. Eighteen-year-old Racing Bulls rookie Arvid Lindblad sent the India Expo Mart into a frenzy as he piloted the iconic Red Bull RB8 - the very car that won India's only Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2012 - in a high-speed showrun at the Red Bull Moto Jam.

But it wasn't just the screaming V8 engine that made the moment special. As pyrotechnics lit up the evening sky, Lindblad climbed out and waved the Indian tricolour to chants of "Chak De India." Fans didn't just cheer him. They claimed him.

A Homecoming of Heritage

Born in England to a Swedish father and an Indian-origin mother with roots in Bihar, Lindblad has never hidden his connection to India. Before the showrun, he took part in a traditional vahan puja - a vehicle blessing.

She applied a red tika on his forehead, placed a black dot behind his ear to ward off the evil eye, and fed him sweet curd for good luck. The ritual was performed on the 2012 RB8 itself - Sebastian Vettel's championship-winning machine - symbolically bridging India's past in F1 with its hopeful future.

Lindblad later spoke about growing up eating his grandmother's food and celebrating Diwali, grounding his fast-rising motorsport career in cultural familiarity.

Then came the donuts. With the RB8's engine echoing across the venue, Lindblad spun celebratory circles before stepping out to wave the flag again - this time soaking in the moment.

"Desi Baby" and a New Poster Boy

Social media exploded within seconds.

"Oh my desi baby you wanna race under the Indian flag so bad," one fan wrote.

Another called it the "CRAZIEST THING I'LL EVER SEE PROBABLY SO COOL."

"Felt amazing seeing Arvid holding the Indian flag," posted one supporter, while another admitted: "I'm feeling so incredibly patriotic right now."

For a country that hasn't hosted a Grand Prix since 2013, the symbolism wasn't subtle. The RB8 - the last car to win at the Buddh International Circuit - roaring once more on Indian soil felt like a teaser trailer for a sequel fans desperately want.

The Only Rookie on the 2026 Grid

Lindblad is set to make his Formula 1 debut in 2026 as the only rookie on the grid - a rapid ascent that has already made him one of the most talked-about young drivers in the sport.

But in India this week, he wasn't just a rookie. He was possibility.

With heritage, humility, and horsepower converging in one spectacle, the Moto Jam became more than a promotional event. It became a reminder of unfinished business between India and Formula 1.

And as Lindblad waved the tricolour, the message from the crowd was unmistakable: Bring F1 back.
