Carlos Sainz has expressed his confidence in his decision to join Williams for the 2025 season, following a multi-year contract agreement. This move ends months of speculation about his future after it was confirmed that Lewis Hamilton would replace him at Ferrari.
Williams, who have struggled in recent years, are aiming to become more competitive under team principal James Vowles. Sainz's arrival is seen as a significant step towards this goal. Sainz compared this project to the one McLaren started when he left them in 2020.

Sainz mentioned that he always had a good feeling about Williams during negotiations. "I've always had the feeling during all those negotiations, I always had Williams in the back of my head as I always had that good feeling with James [Vowles] and the investment group Dorilton," he said.
He emphasised the importance of trusting his instincts about people in Formula 1. Reflecting on his time at McLaren, he noted how he felt confident about their future success due to the team's culture and leadership.
Vowles first approached Sainz at the end of last season, making it a priority to sign him. This effort was appreciated by Sainz, who said, "It was very important, obviously he's the leader of the project, and he has the vision, and he shared that vision, and he convinced me."
Sainz highlighted their similar analytical and fair-minded characters as factors that helped convince him to join Williams. He believes in Vowles' vision for the team's future.
Sainz is currently fifth in the drivers' championship while Ferrari holds third place in the constructors' championship. In contrast, Williams is ninth with just four points. Despite this gap, Sainz trusts in Williams' potential for growth.
"When I left McLaren in 2020, I felt like the team was moving forward and was going to be successful in the future," Sainz recalled. He sees a similar trajectory for Williams under Vowles' leadership.
Sainz's belief in Williams' culture and people played a crucial role in his decision. "I need to trust that feeling, and this is what I committed to," he stated.
As Sainz prepares for his new chapter with Williams, both parties are optimistic about their future together. The Spaniard's experience and belief in Vowles' vision could be key factors in transforming Williams into a more competitive team.
