F1: Force Ind members leave Bahrain after firebomb scare

By Anita
London, Apr 20: Its Formula One time again in the Kingdom of Bahrain and tensions in the island has resurfaced again. The anti-government protests have reared its ugly head again, so much so that two members of the Force India Formula One team have decided to leave the strife-ridden island. They made the hasty decision after a firebomb set off near their team vehicle.

The firebomb exploded in Bahrain's capital, Manama that led to confusion causing a traffic snarl and delaying the vehicle the team members were travelling in. They were on their way from the Bahrain Grand Prix to their hotel.

None of the team members were injured. Those in the vehicle was not Formula one drivers too. The matter was revealed to agencies by Force India spokesman Will Hings.

Hings has been quoted as saying, "We were not the target. We just happened upon an incident that was ahead of us, a disruption in the road. Nobody was hurt from our team. We were not targeted directly by Molotov cocktails."

Hings added that even though the four team members were back on track on Thursday, he later stated that two of them would be leaving the country. Adding that they were not leaving because of the safety aspect, he commented, "We've always taken our direction from the FIA. I'm sure they're continuing to monitor the situation in Bahrain. We take our guidance from them."

The Bahrain International Circuit said that the ruckus was caused by "illegal protesters acting violently towards police. The BIC would like to reiterate its confidence in the relevant Bahrain authorities in their ability to deal with such isolated incidents and can confirm that all the usual precautions are being taken around the track to ensure the level of security is maintained."
