Ferrari Principal Frederic Vasseur Confident In Lewis Hamilton Despite Challenging 2024 Season

Frederic Vasseur, Ferrari's team principal, remains optimistic about Lewis Hamilton's performance in the upcoming season. Despite a difficult final campaign with Mercedes, Vasseur believes that Hamilton's partnership with Charles Leclerc will enhance the team's competitiveness.

Ferrari's team principal, Frederic Vasseur, remains unfazed by Lewis Hamilton's upcoming arrival, despite the driver's challenging 2024 season. Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, will join Ferrari in the new year after finishing his last season with Mercedes in seventh place—his lowest career position. He ended 22 points behind teammate George Russell, who generally outperformed him in qualifying rounds.

Despite these setbacks, Hamilton secured victories at the British and Belgian Grands Prix. Vasseur believes that competition with Charles Leclerc will drive Ferrari forward. "I am really convinced, and I don't want to blame Lewis or Mercedes, that this situation is not easy to manage," Vasseur stated. "He was not very well in his mind and he was clear about this in Brazil."

Vasseur Confident in Hamilton for 2024 Season

Vasseur expressed confidence in the mutual respect between Hamilton and Leclerc. "Charles, Lewis, I am not particularly worried about this," he said. The two drivers have been discussing their partnership for months. Vasseur sees their collaboration as beneficial for Ferrari's performance. Competing for top positions is preferable to battling for lower ranks.

Vasseur highlighted that signing Hamilton was straightforward due to Ferrari's recent successes. "In 2023, we won more races than Mercedes," he noted. This achievement made it easier to convince Hamilton of Ferrari's potential as a good project. The idea of driving for Ferrari had been on Hamilton's mind since 2004.

The timing aligned perfectly with both parties' needs: "Sometimes, it is also a matter of coincidence or to align all the planets," Vasseur explained. With a seat available at Ferrari and Hamilton on the market, discussions began a year ago and progressed smoothly.

Vasseur remains optimistic about the future collaboration between Hamilton and Leclerc at Ferrari. He believes their partnership will enhance team performance through healthy competition. The focus is on achieving top positions rather than struggling at the back of the grid.
