Formula 1: He is well and is making a 'solid recovery', says Fernando Alonso's Manager

Barcelona, Feb 24: Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso is making a "solid recovery" after his crash in Formula 1 testing at Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona on Sunday.

Alonso's McLaren team also revealed he had undergone a "thorough and complete analysis" and the results were "completely normal". The two-time world champion's McLaren-Honda hit the wall side on at Turn Three of the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona on Sunday, and although Alonso was conscious and able to speak to doctors after receiving care at the circuit's medical center.

The McLaren Honda team confirmed that the accident was not caused by a mechanical failure or driver error but by a gust of 'wind'.

After the incident, the two-time world champion was airlifted to hospital for precautionary checks.
The 33 year old Spainard is kept in a hospital in Barcelona for further observation. No decision has yet been made on his participation in the third and final round of pre-season testing, which begins later this week.

Alonso's manager Luis GarcÍa Abad told the Spanish media: "He is well and I don't think there will be any problems.

"The impact was quite strong but fortunately, it was nothing. He was conscious and able to speak."

Alonso had won back-to-back world titles with Renault in 2005 and 2006 before spending one season at McLaren in 2007. Alonso has 32 career grand prix victories, the last of which came in Barcelona in 2013.
