Hamilton Affirms Clean Racing With Russell In Competitive Mexican Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton expressed confidence in George Russell's racing integrity during their competitive battle at the Mexican Grand Prix. Finishing fourth, Hamilton highlighted the importance of teamwork and strategy as they both secured valuable points for Mercedes.

Lewis Hamilton expressed confidence in his Mercedes teammate, George Russell, regarding their on-track battle during the Mexican Grand Prix. Hamilton secured fourth place, finishing just ahead of Russell. This marked Hamilton's best result since his victory at the Belgian Grand Prix in July. Starting fifth and sixth, they swapped positions early on, with Russell reclaiming his spot by Lap 14.

Both drivers advanced a position during pit stops as Max Verstappen faced two 10-second penalties. Hamilton eventually overtook Russell at Turn 1 on Lap 65 to secure fourth place. "It's pretty straightforward, I don't think either of us are silly," Hamilton remarked about racing against Russell. He praised Russell's intelligence and fairness in positioning his car.

Hamilton and Russell Race Cleanly in Mexico

Hamilton emphasised the importance of maintaining a clean race with a teammate. "When [the team] comes on the radio and says, keep it clean, it's like, of course," he stated. Racing a teammate requires extra caution to ensure both finish the race successfully.

Reflecting on the race, Hamilton shared that he enjoyed the experience despite challenges. "I had a good start, I had a really bad first stint," he admitted, noting issues with understeer after adjusting the front wing too much. Post-pit stop adjustments improved his pace significantly.

The team opted for an earlier stop than planned but managed to secure valuable points. Looking ahead to Brazil, Hamilton aims to leverage his strong track record at Interlagos where he has scored more points than any other current driver.

Russell's Resilience and Outcome

Russell was pleased with his top-five finish despite setbacks from crashing in FP2 on Friday. He noted strong pace initially but encountered issues after exiting the pits behind Piastri. "I pulled out down the straight and my front left flap just collapsed," Russell explained.

This issue cost him time over the remaining laps but he managed to hold onto fifth place. Reflecting on Friday's crash, Russell felt satisfied with securing P5 under challenging circumstances.

The Mexican Grand Prix highlighted teamwork and individual resilience for Mercedes drivers. Both Hamilton and Russell demonstrated skillful driving while navigating challenges to achieve commendable results for their team.
