Hamilton mentor Dennis to stand down from Formula One to save McLaren

London, Apr.16 (ANI): Ron Dennis, who mentored Lewis Hamilton to become world champion, will stand down from all Formula One activities today in a bid to save McLaren.

A formal announcement is expected in about two weeks after Hamilton and the team's sporting director Dave Ryan were found to have lied to race stewards twice in Australia and Malaysia.

Ryan has been sacked and Hamilton has issued a public apology, but the team has been called to answer at an extraordinary meeting of the FIA's World Motor Sports Council on April 29 where it could be thrown out of the championship, the Daily Express reports.

Relations between Dennis and Hamilton, particularly with his father Anthony, who acts as his manager, are at an all-time low and with the FIA axe swinging over the team he started his career with as a mechanic, Dennis is prepared to sacrifice himself to ease the punishment. (ANI)
