Karun, Armaan excited about second Indian F1 team

By Staff

New Delhi, Jan 31 (UNI) Good times are ahead for young Indian drivers including Karun Chandok and Armaan Ebrahim with the Spice Group making a serious bid for stake in Super Aguri F1 team, raising the hopes of another Indian team on the Formula One.

With Vijay Mallaya's ForceIndia already making the waves, the very prospect of having a second Indian team has excited Chennai based drivers Karun and Armaan.

Karun, a test driver with the Red Bull F1 team, who finished third in the GP 2 Asian series at Dubai last week says he is thrilled with this news.

''It will be great if the second Indian team has Narain Karthikeyan as their driver,It will be a big morale booster for motor sports in the country. I don't have full details about the deal but the very prosepect of having two Indian teams in Formula One is very thrilling,'' Karun said here this afternoon.

According to him if Narain gets a chance, it will indeed be a big thing to have atleast one Indian driver on the F1 grid next year.

Karun along with Armaan were here to attend the launching of 11th JK Tyre National Racing Championship.

Armaan, who did not have a very good outing in his first appearance in the GP2 Asian Series at Dubai, also echoed Karun's sentiments.

''To have an Indian driver in the F1 will be the best thing to happen to Indian Motor Sports,'' he said.

The young driver who is with team DPR (David Price Racing) however was candid enough to admit that having Indian team does not mean that Indian drivers will have to be in the cockpit, the selection will depend on several factors but to have a second Indian FI team is a big news in itself.
