Klose eyeing overtaking Ronaldo's World Cup record haul of 15 goals

By Anmolg

Durban, July 5(ANI): Germany striker Miroslav Klose hopes to overtake Brazilian legend Ronaldo's World Cup record, when his team plays Spain in Wednesday's semi-final in Durban.Klose, who scored twice against Argentina in the quarterfinal to take his finals tally to 14, is just one goal shy of Ronaldo's record haul of 15 goals.

The 32-year-old has already overtaken Pele, who managed 12 in his four finals and Frenchman Just Fontaine, who netted 13 in just one competition in 1958.

Since bursting onto the international stage at the 2002 World Cup, Klose has become well-known for his knack of scoring headers and his front-flip goal celebration routine.

He said that he had spoken to Ronaldo after the 2002 final, where Brazil beat Germany 2-0, but had never dreamt of breaking his record.

"I spoke with him after the final and at the time I would not have dreamed of ever coming close to him. Needing two more goals to surpass him, I hope he's not too worried," The Sun quoted Klose, as saying.

Klose had scored five goals in his debut World Cup, hosted jointly by the Korea Republic and Japan.

He was the top scorer, and the Golden Boot winner, at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, with five goals.

He also scored in his first game of the ongoing World Cup, against England in the Round of 16 stage, and scored twice on his 100th cap against Argentina. (ANI)
