Lando Norris Confident He Can Challenge For World Title Following Competitive Season Against Max Verstappen

Lando Norris believes he has the potential to compete for a world title after his performance against Max Verstappen in the 2024 season. With McLaren's strong showing, he reflects on his growth and readiness to face top competitors.

Lando Norris is optimistic about his potential to compete for a world title in the future, following his intense rivalry with Max Verstappen during the 2024 season. As he heads to the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Norris trails Verstappen by 62 points and acknowledges that a victory is crucial to keep his slim championship hopes alive. Verstappen and Red Bull began the season strong, but Norris and McLaren have emerged as serious challengers after significant car improvements.

Despite a thrilling weekend in Brazil where Norris reduced Verstappen's lead to 44 points by winning the Sprint race, Verstappen's remarkable performance in wet conditions restored his advantage. Starting from 17th on the grid, Verstappen can secure his fourth world title in Las Vegas this weekend. Reflecting on the season, Norris stated: "That I have what it takes. It's the first time in the last six years of F1 that we've had a chance to fight at the front."

Norris Aims for Future World Title Challenge

This weekend presents McLaren with an opportunity to edge closer to their first constructors' championship since 1998. The team currently leads Ferrari by 36 points at the top of the standings, with two races and a sprint remaining this season. McLaren has achieved 19 podiums in 2024, marking their best campaign since 2007 when they secured 24 podiums.

Norris remains cautious about declaring victory too soon, acknowledging Ferrari's strength: "Ferrari have been strong for a long time," he said. "They have two very good drivers; they're a very good team." He noted that Ferrari has improved significantly and poses a formidable challenge alongside Red Bull.

Norris feels he has grown significantly throughout the season, especially since the summer break. He admitted not being at his best initially but believes he's delivered some of his finest performances recently. "I definitely was not at the level I needed to be at the beginning of the year," he said, adding that he's pleased with his progress over recent months.

The competition remains fierce as teams prepare for Las Vegas. Norris acknowledged that Ferrari might have an edge on this track due to past performances but expressed confidence in McLaren's prospects in Qatar. "We know Qatar will be more favourable to us," he remarked.

Norris remains focused on refining his skills and acknowledges areas for improvement despite recent successes. He understands that competing against top drivers like Verstappen requires near perfection: "You have to be close to perfect if you want to challenge him," he stated confidently.
