Lando Norris is gearing up for a competitive 2025 Formula One season after gaining valuable insights from the previous year. Alongside Oscar Piastri, Norris helped McLaren secure their first constructors' championship since 1998. Despite winning four races, Norris finished second in the drivers' championship to Max Verstappen, who claimed his fourth consecutive title. Norris aims to return stronger this year and pursue his first world title.
Norris achieved his fourth career win at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, placing him among the top-60 drivers with the most victories in F1 history. This victory marked McLaren's 189th overall win, a feat not seen since 2012 when Lewis Hamilton and Jensen Button were racing. Although finishing behind Verstappen was disappointing for Norris, he remains determined to improve and challenge for the title this year.

Reflecting on his journey, Norris expressed his emotions about narrowly missing out on the championship. "When that realisation kind of sets in of 'it's gone', it's a tough one," he shared on the BBC podcast F1: Back at Base. "This is what I've done since I was a kid, this is all I want to do. So, as soon as that kind of candle is gone, and it's over, it hurts."
Norris' performance last season was commendable as he closed the gap to Verstappen towards the end of the season. He secured his first F1 victory at the Miami Grand Prix and ended the campaign with eight pole positions alongside his four wins. With four races remaining, he was within 47 points of Verstappen, but Verstappen's impressive wet-weather victory in Brazil allowed him to clinch the title in Las Vegas.
Reflecting on his achievements, Norris stated, "It's been a year when, actually, I've been pretty proud of my performance. Proud of performing under the pressure that we've been under, delivering when I have." He acknowledged learning from mistakes while maintaining confidence in his abilities and car for future challenges.
Norris is optimistic about 2025, believing he has grown significantly as a driver. "I believe I'm a good enough driver, and I've got everything it takes," he said. His confidence has increased throughout the season, making him ready to compete fiercely for next year's championship.
Confidence has been an area where Norris has struggled previously but feels more assured now. "I'm confident that I'm a good enough driver to win a championship next year," he noted. He is prepared to face any competitor willing to challenge him for it.
As Norris looks ahead to another promising season with McLaren, he carries forward lessons learned from past experiences. His focus remains on enhancing performance and achieving success in Formula One's competitive landscape.
