Red Bull's motorsport advisor, Helmut Marko, has expressed significant concern about Max Verstappen's future with the team. Verstappen, a four-time Formula One champion, finished sixth in the Bahrain Grand Prix. This result came as Oscar Piastri secured McLaren's third win of the season. Currently, Verstappen is third in the drivers' championship standings, trailing McLaren's Lando Norris by eight points.
Verstappen's contract with Red Bull extends until 2028. However, there is speculation about a performance clause that might allow him to exit earlier if certain conditions aren't met. Although specifics of this clause remain undisclosed, it reportedly requires Red Bull to supply Verstappen with a competitive car. Marko stated to Sky Germany, "The concern is great. Improvements have to come in the near future so that he has a car with which he can win again."

Verstappen achieved victory at the Japanese Grand Prix just before heading to Bahrain. His success was largely due to an impressive qualifying lap on Suzuka's narrow track, which helped him maintain his lead throughout the race against McLaren's Norris and Piastri. This marked his first win of the year after mixed results in previous races in Australia, China, and Bahrain.
Earlier in the season, Verstappen voiced concerns about balance issues with his Red Bull car. He noted unpredictability during corner entry and mid-corner understeer as significant challenges. Despite these issues, Verstappen managed two wins over his last 13 races last season and secured his fourth world title thanks to an early lead.
The high temperatures and abrasive surface at Bahrain highlighted existing problems with Red Bull's car. Verstappen commented on how these conditions exacerbated balance issues: "Here you just get punished a bit harder when you have big balance issues because the tarmac is so aggressive." He also mentioned difficulties with brake feeling and grip throughout the weekend.
The wind was also quite high and the track had low grip," he added. "Just the whole weekend struggling a bit with brake feeling and stopping power, and besides that, very poor grip." Despite trying various setups, they failed to find a clear direction for improvement.
Despite these challenges and uncertainties about Red Bull's performance capabilities, Verstappen remains calm regarding his future prospects with the team.
