Max Verstappen has secured the Formula One drivers' championship once more, despite a challenging season. At the Las Vegas Grand Prix, his fifth-place finish was enough to clinch the title, finishing just ahead of McLaren's Lando Norris. This victory marks Verstappen's fourth world championship, placing him among legends like Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher, and Juan Manuel Fangio.
Verstappen acknowledged the difficulties Red Bull faced in 2024, including Adrian Newey's departure and reported tensions within the team. "The beginning was a bit messy but I think I'm quite calm in those situations," he told Sky Sports F1. He emphasised his ability to remain focused on racing, stating that once in the car, he concentrates solely on performance.

Despite not having a consistent rival this season, Verstappen deserves recognition for overcoming team challenges. His focus and determination have been key to his success. "I know that when I sit in the car, I forget about everything," Verstappen added, highlighting his mental resilience.
Verstappen's third title in 2023 saw him win 19 out of 22 races, setting a new record for most victories in a single season. This year has been different; with two races left in Qatar and Abu Dhabi, he has eight wins. If he doesn't win again, he'll be the champion with the fewest wins since Sebastian Vettel in 2012.
The competitive field and teammate Sergio Perez's struggles mean Red Bull might not finish in the top two of the constructors' standings. Currently third with 555 points, they trail McLaren's 608 and Ferrari's 584. If they remain third, Verstappen will be the first champion from outside the top two teams since Nelson Piquet in 1983.
Several pivotal moments defined Verstappen's season. He won seven of the first ten races, including consecutive victories in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. In Saudi Arabia, he joined an elite group by surpassing 100 podium finishes. Now at 111 podiums, only Hamilton (201), Schumacher (155), and Vettel (122) have more.
A notable moment came when Verstappen failed to win from pole at Austria's Red Bull home grand prix. This started a streak of ten races without victory until Sao Paulo in November. There he won after starting from 17th position—a feat achieved only six times before.
Verstappen aims for more history as he seeks a fifth consecutive title next year. Only Schumacher has achieved five straight titles between 2000 and 2004. Other drivers like Vettel and Hamilton have managed four consecutive wins recently.
The competition remains fierce with Hamilton joining Ferrari and McLaren's Norris and Oscar Piastri developing rapidly. However, many believe Verstappen can continue his dominance given his current form and focus.
The Las Vegas Grand Prix was significant as it marked another instance where an F1 champion was crowned in the United States—nine times now compared to Japan’s thirteen or Italy’s eleven coronations.
