Oscar Piastri has committed to a new long-term deal with McLaren just before the Australian Grand Prix. This extension builds on his previous contract, which was set to expire at the end of 2026. However, the precise duration of this new agreement remains undisclosed. Last year, Piastri and his teammate Lando Norris played crucial roles in McLaren's first constructors' championship win since 1998.
Piastri secured his initial two Formula One victories last season by triumphing in both the Hungarian and Azerbaijan Grands Prix. He also achieved eight podium finishes. The McLaren duo finished fourth and second in the drivers' championship respectively. They are now aiming to prevent Max Verstappen from claiming a fifth consecutive title as the 2025 season kicks off in Australia.

Reflecting on his journey with McLaren, Piastri expressed his excitement about being part of their long-term plans. "It's a great feeling knowing that I'm part of McLaren's long-term vision," he stated. He acknowledged the team's faith in him since signing in 2022 and praised their efforts in helping him become a Formula 1 race winner early in his career.
Zak Brown, McLaren Racing's CEO, highlighted Piastri's significant contribution to the team. "Not only is Oscar an incredibly talented driver, but his work ethic and cultural fit within the team made it a no-brainer to extend his time," he said. Brown emphasized that Piastri has been instrumental both on and off the track, contributing significantly to their legacy with last season's constructors' championship win.
Piastri shared his enthusiasm for continuing with McLaren through a tweet:
Brown further noted that having such a strong driver lineup is invaluable for McLaren. He expressed optimism about what they can achieve together as they continue competing for world championships. The team looks forward to building on their recent successes and striving for more victories in future seasons.
