Sergio Perez has shared that he is in discussions with several teams about a possible return to Formula One after leaving Red Bull in December. His departure followed the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, concluding a four-year tenure despite a contract extension earlier that year. Perez's 2024 season was challenging, with only four podium finishes and 152 points, marking his lowest since joining Red Bull in 2021.
Perez ended the drivers' championship in eighth place, trailing teammate Max Verstappen by 285 points. His performance contributed to Red Bull finishing third in the constructors' championship, behind Ferrari and McLaren. Despite these setbacks, Perez remains optimistic about returning to F1, stating, "I've been approached by a few teams since Abu Dhabi." He added that he will decide once all options are clear.

Reflecting on his final year with Red Bull, Perez described it as terrible due to struggles with the RB20 car. "Especially last year, I didn't get to show what I'm able to do as a driver," he mentioned. He noted that others now realise how challenging the car is to drive. Despite these difficulties, Perez wishes success for his former team and friends there.
Liam Lawson replaced Perez at Red Bull for the 2025 season but was dropped after two races. Lawson retired from the Australian Grand Prix and finished 12th in China, leading to Yuki Tsunoda partnering with Verstappen. Perez supports Tsunoda's debut at his home grand prix in Japan this weekend, expressing confidence in his talent and mentality.
Perez emphasised his desire for Red Bull's success due to friendships within the team. "I really want the team to do well," he said. He acknowledged the difficulty of discussing internal matters from an outsider's perspective but highlighted challenges with the car's performance.
As Perez considers his future options in Formula One, he remains committed to returning only if the project aligns with his interests and enjoyment. His decision will depend on opportunities that arise as the season progresses.
