Rossi eyes Aragon return after missing Misano

Movistar Yamaha Team confirmed that there would not be any replacement for the 38-year-old in Misano.

Bengaluru, September 5: MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi, who is recovering from a leg injury sutained during a training accident, will not compete in the upcoming Grand Prix at Misano on Sunday (September 10).

Rossi's Movistar Yamaha Team confirmed on Twitter that there would not be any replacement for the 38-year-old in the race to be held at Italy's Adriatic coast, near his hometown.

"The whole of Yamaha wishes Valentino Rossi a speedy recovery and hopes to see him back on his YZR-M1 as soon as possible," the Yamaha statement added.

That means Maverick Vinales would be the only Yamaha rider on the grid for the 13th round of the 18-leg FIM Championship Series.

Vinales too wished his team-mate a speedy recovery.

It may be recalled that Rossi was involved in an enduro accident during training close to his hometown Tavullia on August 31.

He underwent a surgery on the displaced fractures of the tibia and fibula of his right leg.

With six rounds to go, Rossi is currently fourth in the overall MotoGP standings which is headed by his compatriot and Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso.

With doctors having adviced him minimum 30 to 40 days rest, Rossi's title chances appear to have diminished.

But Rossi will be hoping to bet back on the bike by the the Aragon Grand Prix on September 24 as was evident from his words when he was discharged form the hospital.

"I will begin the rehabilitation as soon as possible and we'll see how my body reacts before making any decisions. I have to say "thanks" once again to all the staff of the 'Ospedali Riuniti' in Ancona, but also Urbino's First Aid and the 118 Service, as well as all the friends that came to visit me. As I said, I will do everything I can to get back as soon as possible."
