Rossi feeling better after successful surgery

The 38-year-old was immediately taken to a hospital in Urbino, a town near his home in eastern Italy, for preliminary checks.

Bengaluru, September 2: Italian great Valentino Rossi, who met with an accident during training underwent a surgery today on the displaced fractures of the tibia and fibula of his right leg.

The incident happened yesterday when he was involved in an enduro accident during training close to his hometown of Tavullia.

The 38-year-old was immediately taken to a hospital in Urbino, a town near his home in eastern Italy, for preliminary checks.

Rossi was was transported to the 'Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Ospedali Riuniti' in Ancona where he underwent the successful operation.

Movistar Yamaha Team revealed his medical update on their Twitter handle.

While wishing Rossi a speedy recovery, Yamaha also extended their thanks to the entire staff of the hospital for their dedication and professional care.

Rossi himself released a statement much to the relief of his worldwide fans.

"The surgery went well. This morning, when I woke up, I felt already good. I would like to thank the staff of the Ospedali Riuniti in Ancona, and in particular Doctor Pascarella who operated on me. I'm very sorry for the incident. Now I want to be back on my bike as soon as possible. I will do my best to make it happen!," said the Movistar rider, who is currently fourth in the overall standings with 157 points.

With six rounds to go, compatriot Andrea Dovizioso leads the championship with 183 points, followed by world champion Marc Marquez on 174. Rossi's Yamaha mate Maverick Vinales is third with 170 points.

The next round of MotoGP is in Misano on September 10.
