Bengaluru, August 22: As the FIM MotoGP caravan moves to Silverstone, Great Britain, for the 12th round, history beckons evergreen hero Valentino Rossi as he is set to become the first rider in Grand Prix racing to start in 300 premier class races.
The Movistar Yamaha MotoGP rider, who won the Dutch Grand Prix this season, is currently perched fourth in standings with 141 points, just 33 behind defending champion Marc Marquez of Repsol Honda.
But with seven races stiil to go, the nine-time world champion is very much in the scheme of things and is surely a title contender this time.
Of his 299 previous starts, only one victory has come at the tricky Silverstone circuit and this would be one record 'The Doctor' would be keen to set straight in the Biritish city.
"I'm fine with the YZR-M1. I can ride the bike better, I'm happy and I hope I can fight for the podium at every race. The championship is still open and it will be important to take as many points as possible," Rossi had said during the summer break.
Rossi is known to be more comfortable and faster in dry conditions than wet. But the extra motivation of the 300th Grand Prix would keep him in good stead despite the fickle English weather and it was quite evident from his words.
"Anyway, I think that in a full dry or full wet race I can fight for the podium for sure".
So it does not matter as to whether it rains or remains sunny on Sunday (August 27) as one of the greatest riders of all times is all set to compete in his 300th MotoGP and ready to give it all as he has been doing all these years.
Fasten your seat belts! It's time to honour this little gem from Tavullia who has sparked the imagination of many riders all over the world.
