Red Bull continued their dominance in Formula 1 season 2023 with their second driver Sergio Perez claiming his career second pole position at the Qualifying session of the Saudi Arabian GP in Jeddah on Saturday.

Sergio Perez

The Mexican clocked 1:28.265 second to take the top spot while his teammate and two-time defending world champion Max Verstappen made a Q2 exit after the camshaft's failure early in the session.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc was the second fastest car on the evening with a timing of 1:28.420 as he threatened Perez for the pole position. The Monegasque, however, will start 12th on the grid after being a 10-place grid penalty before the start of the weekend.

This effectively means Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso will start second after clocking the third fastest time of 1:28.730 seconds while Mercedes' George Russell will be right behind Perez on the grid as he clocked 1:28.857.

His teammate and seven-time World Champion clocked the eighth fastest time of 1:29.223, losing to Russell for the second time in as many Qualifyings.

Aston Martin's Lance Stroll (1:28.945) and Alpine's Estaban Ocon (1:29.078) lapped better times than the British driver.

McLaren's rookie driver Oscar Piastri was ninth followed by Pierre Gasly at 11th.
