Zhou Guanyu Confirmed As Ferrari's Reserve Driver For The 2025 Formula One Season

Zhou Guanyu has been named a reserve driver for Ferrari in the 2025 Formula One season, supporting Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. Guanyu, who departed Sauber at the end of 2024, is returning to Ferrari after being part of their Driver Academy from 2014 to 2018. He left the academy seven years ago and joined the Renault Sport Academy before moving into Formula Two.

Guanyu's journey in Formula One began with Alfa Romeo in 2022, where he partnered with Valtteri Bottas. He made history as the first Chinese driver to compete in F1. Over his tenure with the team until 2024, which later became Kick Sauber, he accumulated 16 points across 68 races. Now, Guanyu will share reserve duties at Ferrari with Antonio Giovinazzi.

Antonio Giovinazzi will continue racing for Ferrari in the World Endurance Championship this year. He achieved victory at the Le Mans 24 Hours event in 2023. Both drivers aim to support Ferrari's ambitions following their second-place finish in last year's constructors' championship.

Guanyu expressed his excitement about rejoining Ferrari on Instagram: "Back to where it all started, thanks Ferrari for believing in me & can't wait to start this new chapter together!" His return marks a significant step as he reunites with a team that played a crucial role early in his career.

Guanyu's previous stint with Ferrari's Driver Academy spanned from 2014 to 2018. After leaving, he joined Renault Sport Academy before advancing to Formula Two. His career progression led him to Alfa Romeo and eventually back to Ferrari as a reserve driver alongside Giovinazzi.

This strategic move by Ferrari strengthens their backup options for Hamilton and Leclerc. With both Guanyu and Giovinazzi on board, they aim to maintain competitive momentum throughout the upcoming season.
