Nathan Clement Biography

He began swimming competitively in high school in West Vancouver, BC, Canada. His father, a provincial-level rugby and ice hockey player, also competed as an Ironman triathlete. This athletic background influenced his early sporting career. After quitting swimming in 2018, he found a new passion in Para cycling two years later.

Reason for Switching Sports

The decision to switch to Para cycling came after completing a 1000-kilometre cycle in British Columbia in 2020. "I always loved cycling," he said. "I did it as a cross-training sport when I was a swimmer." An interview question about returning to high-performance sport led him to consider this new path seriously.

Achievements in Para Cycling

His efforts paid off when he won gold in the T1 time trial at the 2023 World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. This victory stands out as his most memorable sporting achievement. "From where this started to where we are now is inconceivable," he remarked about his journey.

Coaching and Philosophy

Besides competing, he has also coached children in swimming. He encourages them to take risks and embrace challenges. His coaching philosophy is inspired by Terry Fox's belief in miracles. "Don't be afraid to take the risk," he advises young swimmers.

Future Ambitions

Looking ahead, his primary goal is to win a medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. This ambition drives his training and preparation as he aims to add another accolade to his career.

Educational Background

He studied Journalism and Broadcasting at the British Columbia Institute of Technology in Vancouver, BC, Canada. This educational background complements his athletic career, providing him with skills that extend beyond sports.

The athlete's journey from swimming to Para cycling showcases his adaptability and determination. With a world championship title already under his belt, he now sets his sights on achieving success at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
