In 2023, he was named Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to Para cycling. Previously, he was named Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2013. He has been recognised multiple times at the Aberdeen Sports Awards, winning Male Achiever of the Year and Para Sport Achiever of the Year in both 2014 and 2016.
He also received the Angus Trophy from Scottish Disability Sport in 2012, 2014, and 2015. Additionally, he was named Para Sport Achiever of the Year at the Aberdeen Sports Awards in 2015. In earlier years, he received the Gordon Brown Trophy in 2010 and 2013 for athletes' athlete of the year.
He is married to Lora, with whom he has a son named Fraser, born in 2022.
