By MyKhel Staff

Amid the current saga of Rohit Sharma's body shaming by a political person, a significant development of a similar nature has rocked the United Kingdom.

Body-shaming incidents targeting athletes like Eilish McColgan and Rohit Sharma highlight the issue of societal judgments based on physical appearances, irrespective of an individual's achievements or gender.

Ellish McColgan

Scottish athlete Eilish McColgan, a Commonwealth 10,000m champion, has faced repeated body-shaming remarks online, with critics labeling her as "too skinny" and questioning her health.

She recently uploaded a video of her running and people commented in ill manner and also kept on asking if she has anorexia.

In response, McColgan has actively defended herself, emphasizing her natural physique and the rigorous training regimen that necessitates substantial fueling. She has expressed concern over the impact such comments can have on younger athletes who may struggle to cope up with those attacking comments.

"Stop the jealousy and abuse of women athletes online by posting ridiculous and stupid comments. My concern as a parent is not for Eilish as she is of a strong enough character to deal with these people," Ellish's mother Liz, who herself is an Olympic medallist, commented.

The 34-year-old athlete won the Gold in Commonwealth games 2022 and was also a participant in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Rohit Sharma

India captain Rohit Sharma, has also been subjected to body-shaming. Recently, a political figure of the Indian National Congress (INC) referred to him as "fat" and criticized his captaincy, remarks that were later deleted following public backlash. Shama Mohamed, the alleged politician, hails from Kannur in Kerala, and she tweeted body-shaming Rohit, and despite deleting the tweet, she continued to defend her stance as a right of speech.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) defended Sharma, emphasizing that such derogatory comments are demoralizing, especially during crucial tournaments.

It has created an outrage as people have heavily criticized the political person for her derogatory comments.
