In the previous six editions, around 30,000 athletes from 36 States and Union Territories have participated, making it India's largest youth-centric multisport event.

The 2025 edition is expected to bring together over 10,000 participants, including athletes, support staff, technical officials, competition managers, and volunteers. This year's KIYG will showcase 28 sports, comprising 27 competitive disciplines and 1 demonstration sport-E-sports.

Popular Olympic sports like athletics, swimming, boxing, wrestling, badminton, and shooting will feature alongside traditional and indigenous games such as Mallakhamb, Thang-ta, Gatka, Kalarippayattu, and Yogasana, reinforcing the Government of India's focus on preserving cultural heritage while promoting sporting excellence.

The Games are designed to emulate international standards in every facet-from the conduct of events to digital integration and athlete welfare. All competitions are expected to be televised live on national television, and the organizing committee has ensured clean, fair sport, digitised management, and professional-grade logistics.

Each edition of the Khelo India Youth Games serves as a pathway to the Olympic podium, providing athletes with early exposure to multisport environments and a national-level platform for talent identification.

Since its inception, the KIYG has functioned as a launching pad for India's budding stars. Under the scheme, 1,000 athletes are awarded an annual scholarship of ₹5 lakh for eight years to help prepare them for international competitions. The government has also announced that medal winners at Khelo India events will be eligible for government jobs, providing further incentive for youth to pursue sports professionally.

Notably, Bihar's hosting of the Games is expected to be a catalyst for sporting infrastructure development across the state and will play a key role in capacity building of local stakeholders, including coaches, officials, and volunteers. This move aligns with the broader vision of expanding India's sporting map beyond traditional powerhouses.

From its humble beginnings in 2018 in Delhi, to its most recent edition in Tamil Nadu in 2024, the Khelo India Youth Games continue to evolve as a crucial engine for India's sporting transformation. As the 7th edition approaches, all eyes will be on Bihar as it writes a new chapter in India's grassroots sports movement.
