Annu Rani Gears Up for 2025 Season Debut at Indian Open Throws, Eyes World Championships Glory

National record holder in women's javelin throw, Annu Rani is set to kick off her 2025 season. She has chosen the upcoming Indian Open Throws Competition as the stage for her season debut.

The Arjuna awardee's last competition was the National Open Athletics Championships, where she claimed victory with her best throw of 58.97m.

"Yes, Annu will be competing in the Open Throws, and this will be her preparatory competition." NIS Patiala throwing coach Parveer Singh has confirmed to myKhel.

The last season proved challenging for the national record holder, Annu Rani. Although she began the season with an impressive throw of 60.68m in Germany, she struggled to replicate that form and was unable to surpass the 60m mark for the remainder of the year.

She also fell short of qualifying for the Paris Olympics finals, finishing 15th in the qualification round. Throughout the season, Annu primarily competed in Germany, Poland, and France. Despite a personal best of 63.82m, she secured a gold medal at the Inter-State Athletics Championships with a throw of 57.70m.

This season, Annu Rani's primary focus will be the World Championships in Tokyo. Having competed in four previous World Championships (2023, 2022, 2019, and 2017), her best performance came at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, where she finished 7th in the finals.

"Her main target is the World Championships in Tokyo," said Parveer Singh. The Meerut-based athlete achieved her personal best of 63.82m in 2022 at the Indian Open Javelin Throw Competition. It was during the 2022 season that Annu consistently surpassed the 60m mark, but in 2023 and 2024, she has managed to exceed 60m only twice.

As Annu Rani steps into the 2025 season, the national record holder will look to reclaim her best form with her sights firmly set on Tokyo World Championships and a chance to script yet another chapter of glory.
