On Tuesday, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) saw a change in leadership, as former Asian Games shot put gold medalist Bahadur Singh Sagoo succeeded Adille Sumariwalla as president.
The decision was finalized at AFI's annual general meeting in Chandigarh on Tuesday, as the position became uncontested after senior vice-president Anju Bobby George withdrew from the presidential race.

The 51-year-old Sagoo, a shot-put gold medalist at the 2002 Busan Asian Games and a participant in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics, will serve in the role for four years. He is also a member of the AFI Athletes Commission.
"I am grateful to all of you for choosing me as the president. We will continue and further enhance the ongoing programs initiated by Adille Sumariwalla and Ravinder Chaudhary." Said Bahadur Singh
The outgoing president, Sumariwalla, is currently a member of the executive board of World Athletics. The other positions were filled unopposed, similar to the situation at the previous AGM in 2020.
Delhi's senior administrator, Sandeep Mehta, was elected unopposed as secretary, moving up from his prior role as senior joint secretary in the outgoing council. Stanely Jones was appointed as the new treasurer. The 67-year-old Sumariwalla, who led the AFI since 2012, was ineligible for re-election under the current National Sports Code guidelines.
