DP World India Championship Legacy Fund Pledges £10,000 to Promote Adaptive Golf in India

The Adaptive Golf Alliance Foundation (AGAF) will expand its efforts to introduce golf to more specially-abled people across India after receiving a £10,000-equivalent funding commitment from the DP World India Championship Legacy Fund.

The financial support will help AGAF organise Discovery Events in different parts of the country, providing newcomers with opportunities to experience golf, access structured coaching and progress towards competitive participation. The initiative will also focus on training coaches, expanding educational programmes and encouraging interaction between beginners and experienced adaptive golfers.

DP World India Championship Legacy Fund Pledges 10 000 to Promote Adaptive Golf in India

The announcement came during the DP World India Championship week at Delhi Golf Club, where DP World Tour and Ryder Cup winner Shane Lowry joined Indian professional golfer Diksha Dagar for a special adaptive golf clinic. Dagar, an adaptive athlete and member of India's silver-medal-winning team at the 2026 Asian Games, interacted with participants and coaches during the event.

Hemant Kumar Ruia, Country Manager, Subcontinent (India), said: "The DP World India Championship is about much more than world-class golf. It is about creating a lasting legacy that extends beyond the tournament and makes a meaningful difference in our communities. Through the DP World Legacy Fund, we are committed to breaking down barriers and making golf more accessible and inclusive. Our support for the Adaptive Golf Alliance Foundation reflects our belief that sport has the power to empower individuals, build confidence and create opportunities for people of all abilities to participate, thrive and realize their potential."

AGAF Director Balendu Singh said the funding would help the foundation take its introductory golf programmes to more communities and create opportunities for specially-abled participants to develop their abilities.

Balendu Singh, Director of Adaptive Golf Alliance Foundation, said: "The support from the DP World India Championship Legacy Fund will help us introduce more specially abled people to golf across India. Every Discovery Event is an opportunity to show someone that golf is a sport they can access, enjoy and excel in. This funding will help us reach more communities and create pathways for players to develop their skills and pursue their goals in the game."

The initiative also builds on the work of the European Disabled Golf Association (EDGA), which has been assisting AGAF with expertise and guidance as adaptive golf develops in India.

Tony Bennett, President of the European Disabled Golf Association (EDGA), said: "The AGAF team has made remarkable progress in just nine months since inception in developing adaptive golf in India, from introductory activities to organising the country's inaugural G4D tournament. Through The R&A-supported 8-Stage Pathway, EDGA has been pleased to share its expertise and help establish a foundation for growth. We look forward to continuing our support as more specially abled people are given opportunities to enjoy and progress in golf."

The latest commitment marks the third programme backed by the DP World India Championship Legacy Fund. Established to ensure the tournament leaves a lasting impact beyond competition week, the fund supports initiatives aimed at widening participation, nurturing talent and creating more opportunities for people to engage with golf.

Earlier projects supported through the fund include the introduction of The R&A Women in Golf Leadership Foundation Programme in India and grassroots participation initiatives involving ZEN Golf and Golf Foundation India.
