'Enough is Enough': PCB Threatens Legal Action Over 'Fake News' Targeting Salman Mirza
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially declared war on "agenda-driven" journalism. On Thursday, March 5, 2026, the board threatened a local media outlet with a massive defamation lawsuit following a report alleging "misconduct" by fast bowler Salman Mirza during the ongoing T20 World Cup.
In a strongly worded press release, the PCB characterized the report as a "malicious attempt" to tarnish the reputation of a national player and disrupt the team's morale during a high-stakes global tournament.
The controversy erupted when a news channel claimed that Salman Mirza, a Category D contracted player, was involved in an incident of "misconduct" for harassing a woman at the team hotel.
Pakistan Cricket Board sends strong Message
The PCB was quick to shut down the rumours, stating that no such event took place and that the team's security manager and ICC anti-corruption officials have reported zero issues.
"Agenda-driven fake news targeting the character of our players is unacceptable and will not be tolerated," the PCB stated. "We have instructed our legal department to issue a notice to the media house involved, demanding a public apology and a retraction of the story. If they fail to comply, we will seek heavy compensation for defamation under the new legal framework."
According to various reports, it is suggested that the Cricket board might fine each player 50 lakh Pakistani rupees for the team's poor performance in the recent tournament.
As the T20 World Cup 2026 heads toward its grand finale in Ahmedabad, the PCB's off-field battle proves that the fight for Pakistan's dignity is just as intense as the action on the grass.
