Punjab's 24-year-old sprinter Gurindervir Singh delivered a remarkable performance at the Indian Grand Prix (IGP) held at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Complex on Friday.
Representing Reliance, Singh clocked an impressive 10.20 seconds in the men's 100m Race D, surpassing the previous national record of 10.23 seconds set by Manikanta Hoblidhar in 2023 in Bengaluru.

Expressing his joy, Singh said, "I'm extremely happy to have posted a good time in the IGP ahead of the Federation Cup in April. I wanted to run a fast race but the national record was a bonus." Looking ahead, Singh's primary focus remains on the Asian Athletics Championships in May. "I should be able to do better at the Federation Cup," he added.
Hoblidhar, who finished second in the race, also delivered an exceptional performance, improving his personal best to 10.22 seconds.
In the women's events, Telangana's Nithya Gandhe emerged as the fastest female sprinter of the IGP, clocking 11.41 seconds in the women's 100m Race C. Later in the day, she clinched another gold in the 200m Race B, clocking 23.36 seconds and surpassing Jyothi Yarraji, who finished second with a time of 23.55 seconds. Yarraji, representing Reliance, had earlier won the 100m hurdles gold with an impressive time of 13.07 seconds.
Hockey India Treasurer and President of Hockey Tamil Nadu, Shri Sekar Manoharan, lauded the performances and expressed gratitude towards the Tamil Nadu government for their support in promoting athletics in the region.
