Indian athletics calendar 2025: The Athletics Federation of India has revealed its tight schedule for the 2025 season with the season beginning with the Cross Country Nationals in January. However, the biggest addition in the calendar is the Indian Open World Athletics Bronze Level Continental Tour, which will be the first instance of India hosting such an event.
While the senior track and field season begins with Indian Open Throws in March in Mumbai, the World Athletics Continental Tour will be the highlight of the Indian calendar and the who's who of Indin athletics, including Neeraj Chopra will certainly be competing.
However, it remains to be seen when superstar Neeraj Chopra begins his season as the two-time Olympic medallist, who has mostly started his season abroad. However, he may change his course given that AFI suggested that they would like to see their champion compete in India more.

While it remains to be seen where Neeraj Chopra begins his season, here's the complete schedule for the domestic season, followed by major international events, including the crucial breakdown of the Diamond League for the 2025 season.

Highlighting the calendar is the inaugural Indian Open World Athletics Bronze Level Continental Tour in August. "The Continental Tour will be a good opportunity for the Indian team to showcase their potential on home ground before the World Championships in September," said AFI President Adille Sumariwalla.
The World Athletics Championships, scheduled from September 13-21 in Tokyo, Japan, will serve as the primary focus for the year. Other key international competitions include the World Athletics Relays on May 10-11 in China and the Asian Athletics Championships from May 27-31 in Korea.
Sumariwalla also clarified that India's elite race walkers will skip the Asian Race Walking Championships in March, citing the importance of peak performance at the World Championships later in the year. "The core group of Indian race walkers clock a good time in March but aren't able to repeat the performance later in the season. Since the main focus in 2025 is the global competition in September, we have decided not to send the elite team to Japan in March," he explained.
Domestically, the Senior National Federation Cup in April will act as a qualifier for the Asian Athletics Championships. The AFI has also introduced regional competitions, commencing in April, to nurture emerging athletes. "The AFI has also introduced regional competition from next year to give more exposure to athletes on the fringes," revealed Sumariwalla.
The calendar also features flagship events like NIDJAM (National Inter-District Athletics Meet) in February and the Indian Open Throws and Jumps Competitions in March. With a mix of established meets and new opportunities, the 2025 season promises to set the stage for Indian athletes to excel on the global stage.
