Indian Golf Union Launches National Squad Camp To Prepare Amateur Golfers

The Indian Golf Union has launched a national squad camp in Greater Noida, aimed at enhancing the skills and mental preparedness of top amateur golfers for international competitions. The holistic program covers various aspects, including technical training, nutrition, and sports psychology, ensuring well-rounded athlete development.

The Indian Golf Union (IGU) has taken a significant step in preparing the country's top amateur golfers for international competitions by launching a national squad camp at Jaypee Greens, Greater Noida.

This move is part of a broader initiative to prepare players for the German International Amateur, slated to take place at the Berliner Golf & Country Club Motzener in Mittenwalde from May 1 to 4. The camp, running from April 14 to 19, is a holistic training program aimed at enhancing both the technical and mental aspects of the game for these athletes.

This elite training camp features ten of the nation's most promising golfers, including Arin Ahuja, Rakshit Dahiya, Sukhman Singh, Kanav Chauhan, Varun Muthappa, Ayan Gupta, Jaiveer, Deepak Yadav, Sandeep Yadav, and Vinamra Anand. The National Squad System, initiated by the IGU last year in anticipation of the Paris Olympic Games, aims to provide comprehensive training to refine various facets of the athletes' performance. The program covers areas such as physiotherapy, physical fitness, sports psychology, and nutrition, emphasising the development of well-rounded, competitive, and team-oriented golfers.

Emphasising Holistic Development

The training camp is designed to foster not only technical prowess but also a strong sense of camaraderie and team spirit among the participants. This approach is crucial for building a cohesive unit capable of competing at the highest levels internationally. The program includes specialised sessions with top-class trainers, expert physiotherapists, nutritionists, and mental health professionals, ensuring the golfers receive all-encompassing support.

Major Gen. Bibhuti Bhushan (Retd), IGU Director General, highlighted the camp's significance, stating, "This camp is a step towards building a strong and united national team. Our focus is not just on skills, but on creating mentally tough, physically fit, and team-oriented golfers who are ready to compete and succeed globally."

Golfers' Perspectives on the National Squad Camp

Participants have expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of such a comprehensive training program. Sukhman Singh, one of the amateur golfers at the camp, shared his appreciation for the IGU's efforts, saying, "I am truly grateful to the Indian Golf Union for giving us this wonderful opportunity to be part of the national squad camp. From top-class trainers to expert physiotherapists, nutritionists, and mental health professionals, the committee has put together a world-class set up. This camp is helping us golfers grow in the sport and become stronger, both physically and mentally."

Arin Ahuja also voiced his enthusiasm, noting the personalised guidance provided by India's best professionals, including physiotherapists, psychologists, nutritionists, physical trainers, and swing coaches. "This holistic approach is not only sharpening our skills but also preparing us mentally and physically for upcoming challenges. I am confident it will be immensely beneficial for our future tournaments," said Ahuja.
