Five-time champions Mumbai Indians landed their first win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 in the second week of the ongoing season by beating Kolkata Knight Riders comprehensively at their home venue.

A couple of stand out performances, including a dream debut and a first fifty, helped MI end their winless start to the season as KKR were bowled out for a paltry total at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

While MI and KKR battled on the field, an off-field battle took a new twist as a probe has been ordered into the Hyderabad Cricket Association blackmailing Sunrisers Hyderabad team management over tickets.

Mumbai Indians land first win of the season, beat KKR comprehensively

Mumbai Indians secured their first victory of the season in style, beating the reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders by eight wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

After debutant Ashwani Kumar's figures of 4 for 24 reduced KKR to a meagre 116, South African batter Ryan Rickelton played a match-winning knock, remaining unbeaten on 62 off 41 deliveries, as MI chased down a target of 117 in just 12.5 overs.

Ashwani Kumar, made a dream debut in the IPL, delivering a match-winning performance against KKR. The young seamer from Jhanjheri, Mohali, was the star with the ball, picking up 4/24 in his three-over spell and playing a crucial role in restricting KKR to 116.

Ashwani's impact was felt early as he claimed his maiden IPL wicket by dismissing KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane for 11. Gaining confidence with each delivery, he then sent back the dangerous Rinku Singh (17). After that, he cleaned up Manish Pandey (19) and all-rounder Andre Russell (5) to complete a stunning spell.

Ryan Rickelton scores first fifty in IPL

Picked for the base price of Rs 1 Crore at the mega auction as the primary wicketkeeper-batter, Rickelton finally arrived to the party for Mumbai Indians by smashing an unbeaten 62 off 41 balls. His knock that included 5 sixes and 4 fours, ensured MI chased down the target of 117 with 7.1 overs to spare.

KKR post lowest total of IPL 2025

Coming into the Mumbai Indians clash on the back of an impressive run chase, Kolkata Knight Riders were bundled out for 116, the lowest total of the ongoing season. The previous lowest was Chennai Super Kings' 146/8 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Chennai.

HCA deny blackmailing claims made by Sunrisers Hyderabad

Hyderabad Cricket Association refuted recent allegations, saying that President A. Jagan Mohan Rao did not make any personal request to block tickets for IPL side Sunrisers Hyderabad's matches at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.

Telangana CM orders probe into allegations made by SRH against HCA

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy took serious note of reports that Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had threatened to terminate it's agreement with the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), citing alleged harassment by HCA officials over demands for additional tickets and passes.

According to a report, the Telangan CM ordered a vigilance inquiry to investigate the allegations made by the SRH management against the HCA. The CM also directed officials to probe alleged irregularities in ticket sales at the Uppal Stadium.

Punjab Kings ready for spin test against Lucknow Super Giants

Punjab Kings fast bowling coach James Hopes is in favour of home advantage in cricket ahead of his side's clash against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow, where the challenge could come in the way of spin.

With injury to their key pacers, LSG will rely on the likes of Ravi Bishnoi, Digvesh Singh, M Siddharth and possibly Shahbaz Ahmed to spin the team to victory. But Hopes said PBKS is ready for the spin test in Lucknow.
