IPL Bulletin for April 19: From PBKS Hand RCB Third Straight Home Loss to Speedster’s Possible Season Debut

By MyKhel Staff

Week four of the Indian Premier League (IPL) concluded with 18th birthday of the lucrative league, which kicked off seventeen years ago on April 18, 2008, and it was once again a disappointing outcome for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Just like the first match of IPL against Kolkata Knight Riders more than a decade and half ago, RCB batting collapsed against Punjab Kings as their dreadful record at home extended in rainy Bengaluru on Friday (April 18) night.

IPL bulletin on April 19

RCB, however, avoided bettering their already existing unwanted record thanks to the late charge from Tim David, who helped the team to at least a total of respect in front of their home fans at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Now, the fourth week of action is set to conclude on Saturday (April 19) with a double-header west as Gujarat Titans host table toppers Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals welcome Lucknow Super Giants, who could have a speedster back. Here is a look at the IPL Bulletin for April 19:

Punjab Kings topple RCB in rain-curtailed match in Bengaluru

Marco Jansen (2/10 in 3 overs) and Yuzvendra Chahal (2/11 in 3 overs) starred in an all-round bowling effort that strangled RCB in a 14-over per side truncated contest due to rain delay in Bengaluru. Tim David, however, gave the home side some hope and momentum with an unbeaten fifty that saw RCB post 95/9 in their allotted 14 overs.

In response, PBKS had some hiccups after Josh Hazlewood (3/14 in 3 overs) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/26 in 3 overs) claimed wickets at crucial junctures, but young Nehal Wadhera kept his calm to power his team home with an unbeaten 33 off 17 balls.

RCB fall to hattrick of home defeats

Royal Challengers Bengaluru sit in fourth despite the loss on Friday night thanks to their away form. But the Bengaluru-based side will need to break the code at home after suffering their third straight home loss following defeats to Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals and now GT.

Former Royal Challenger Chahal shines at his stomping ground

It's become a theme now of former RCB players returning to haunt them. After Mohammed Siraj and KL Rahul delivered a statement to their former franchise, this time Chahal returned to show why RCB will miss him as the leg-spinner extended his wickets tally to 54, the most at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in IPL.

Tim David's maiden IPL fifty goes in vain, but RCB batter wins player of the match

David was awarded the player of the match despite ending up on the losing side after his unbeaten fifty, the first in IPL, made it an interesting contest. Walking in to bat at number seven with the scorecard reading 33 for 5 and at one stage staring at the posting the lowest total at 42/7, David played a lone hand to take RCB to a respectable total.

CSK sign former Mumbai Indians batter as injury replacement

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have roped in South African batter and former Mumbai Indians star Dewald Brevis as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh for the rest of the ongoing season with the young Protea dubbed Baby AB, joining the team for a reported Rs 2.2 crore

GT eye return to top when they face DC

After their four-match winning run was snapped last week, Shubman Gill's GT will look to bounce back and get back to the top of the points table when they host the table-toppers Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

DC likely to give a longer rope for Jake Fraser-McGurk

Despite his worrying form, DC head coach Hemang Badani has put all his trust in Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk to come good, handing him at least another game or until injured Faf Du Plessis is fit and available for selection.

RR and LSG look to return to winning ways

Rajasthan Royals suffered their third straight defeat and in fact their fifth loss of the season after going down in the Super Over to DC in their most recent outing. With 7 games left in the league phase, RR will be desperate for a win to stay alive in the playoff race.

Lucknow Super Giants, on the other hand, suffered their third loss of the campaign at home against Chennai Super Kings. Rishabh Pant's LSG will be keen to get back in the win column to stay in touch with the rest of the top four.

RR waiting on Samson's scan results

Rajasthan Royals will be eager to go on a winning run, but the inaugural champions will hope to have their skipper Sanju Samson for the run in. Samson suffered a side strain and retired hurt in RR's super over loss to DC.

While he confirmed that he is feeling alright after the match, RR head coach Rahul Dravid has said the team is waiting on scan results to clear him for the upcoming matches, including today's clash against LSG.

LSG ready to unleash speedster Mayank Yadav

RR may have injury concerns heading into the IPL 2025 clash at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, but there is some good news for LSG, who grappled injury to their pace bowling unit at the start of the season.

Speedster Mayank Yadav, who joined the squad after being cleared to play by BCCI's Centre of Excellence, is likely to feature in tonight's clash, handing a huge boost to LSG and their pace bowling struggles.
