IPL Bulletin For April 24: From Pahalgam Tragedy Mourning to Mumbai Indians Continue Winning Streak & More

By MyKhel Staff

Much-fancied Sunrisers Hyderabad continued to disappoint into week five of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 18 as slow starters Mumbai Indians hit the ground running at the right time.

Backed by many as a sure-shot for playoff qualification after an incredible auction, SRH suffered their sixth loss of the season in eight games with their explosive batting unit producing one of the poorest starts on Wednesday (April 23).

IPL bulletin on April 24

Before the match got under way, the players and match officials paid their respects to the civilians who lost their lives in the terrors attacks at Pahalgam in Jammu & Kashmir. As the nation mourned the tragedy, cricket looked at bringing some cheer in Hyderabad.

As SRH moved closer to elimination from playoff race and MI entered the conversation for a top four finish, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals will also be aiming to do the same when they clash in Bengaluru on Thursday (April 24). Here is the IPL Bulletin for April 24:

Mumbai Indians win four on the trot to enter top 4

Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav starred as five-time champions Mumbai Indians registered a comprehensive 7-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

After Boult (4/26) and Chahar (2/12) helped restrict SRH to 143, Rohit Sharma (70 off 46 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (40* off 19 balls) made lightwork of the run chase as MI reached the target with 26 balls to spare.

With this, slow starters Mumbai Indians has bounced back from four defeats in the first five matches with four successive wins which took them right into the third spot in IPL 2025 points table.

IPL mourns Pahalgam tragedy

Players from both Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad along with the match officials observed a minute's silence in solidarity with the Pahalgam terror attacks which killed 26 civilians on Tuesday (April 22) in the picturesque town of South Kashmir.

Not just a one-minute silence, players of both teams also wore black armbands in solidarity, and to add to that there were no cheerleaders nor firecrackers used during and at the end of the match.

Trent Boult emerges player of the match for splendid bowling display

Carrying on his exceptional skill in the powerplay, Boult once again dismantled the SRH opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head to trigger another batting collapse for last season's runners up before returning in the death to take two more wickets.

His spell of 4 for 26 in 4 overs turned out to be the game changer as SRH's much-hyped batting unit could only post 143 at their home ground. This performance rightly earned Boult the player of the match award.

Jasprit Bumrah levels Malinga's MI record, completes 300 wickets in T20 cricket

Jasprit Bumrah became the joint-highest wicket-taker for Mumbai Indians in the IPL with 170 scalps, along with Lasith Malinga during Mumbai Indians IPL 2025 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

With the scalp of Heinrich Klaasen, Bumrah also completed 300 T20 wickets, becoming the fifth Indian bowler to reach the milestone in the format after Yuzvendra Chahal, Piyush Chawla, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and R Ashwin.

Rohit Sharma becomes second Indian to cross 12000 runs in T20 cricket

Star Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Rohit Sharma completed 12,000 runs in T20 cricket, becoming the second Indian player and overall eighth player to achieve the milestone. In 456 matches and 443 innings, Rohit has made 12,058 runs at an average of 30.91, with eight centuries and 80 fifties.

The highest run-getter among Indians in T20s is Virat Kohli, who has made 13,208 runs in 407 matches and 390 innings at an average of 41.79 and a strike rate of 134.33, with nine centuries and 101 fifties and the best score of 122*. He is the fifth-highest run-getter in the format.

SRH playoff hopes hit after explosive top order disappoints again

Pat Cummins' side, which powered their way into the final last season, look a completely different side this season, occupying the ninth spot on the points table and stare at finishing outside the playoff spots this year.

SRH opened the campaign with a thumping win over Rajasthan Royals in a high-scoring contest, promising another season of power-hitting from the start to finish, but their much-backed batting unit has failed to live up to the hype, and have consistently failed, resulting in where they sit on the standings.

Abhinav Manohar becomes 16th player to be hit wicket in IPL

SRH's Impact Player played the rescue act along with Klaasen, but Abhinav Manohar registered an unwanted record as the Karnataka batter became the 16th batter to get out via hit wicket in the history of the IPL.

B. Sai Sudharsan was the last batter who suffered a hit wicket in IPL. The Gujarat Titans batter was hit wicket in 2022 during the match against Mumbai Indians, while Musavir Khote was the first batter to get out on hit wicket during the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League in 2008.

RCB aim for first home win of the season

While they remain perfect on the road, winning five of five away matches this season, RCB is yet to open their account at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru has lost all three of their home games this season.

With playoff ambitions, RCB will be looking to end the win-less start at home when they host a lowly Rajasthan Royals in Bengaluru on Thursday (April 24). So far, Rajat Patidar's side has lost to Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings at home with all three defeats coming when batting first and posting a below par total.

Sanju Samson-less RR look to stop slide

Rajasthan Royals will be without the services of their captain Sanju Samson for the second game in a row as they look to turnaround their fortunes heading into the second half of the campaign.

Riyan Parag-led Royals had stopped a two-match losing streak with back to back wins, but the inaugural season champions have since gone on a win-less streak in the last four games, including snatching defeats from good positions when batting second in recent two matches.
