Midway through Indian Premier League (IPL) season 18 race to playoff week Gujarat Titans (GT) got closer to confirming a top four spot on the IPL 2025 points table, while Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) moved to the brink of an early elimination.
After Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) exited the conversation for a playoff spot, Pat Cummins' SRH also got closer to joining them after a thumping loss to Gujarat Titans, who put one foot into the IPL 2025 playoffs.

From start to finish, GT had control of the match in front of their home crowd as they returned to the win column and moved into the second spot on the standings with four more games left to play in the league stage for the 2022 champions.
While there have been several changes to the top of the standings since the start of the week, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will look to end it by reclaiming pole position. But standing in their way will be rivals Chennai Super Kings. Here is the IPL Bulletin for May 3:
Shubman Gill's GT registered a comprehensive 38-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday (May 2) to get within touching distance of a playoff spot.
After Gill and Jos Buttler fifties powered GT to 224/6 in their allotted 20 overs, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj claimed two wickets each to restrict SRH to 186/6 in their run chase.
Having lost their seventh game of the season in 10 outings, last season's runners up are close to an early elimination. But Cummins and Co are just not out of the top four race mathematically as it stands with four more games remaining in the league stage. However, their hopes hang by a thread.
Sai Sudharsan continued his consistent run-scoring form in IPL 2025 as his knock of 48 from 23 balls against SRH saw him topple Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav in the Orange Cap leaderboad.
The Tamil Nadu batter became the first batter to cross the 500-mark this season, taking his tally to 504 runs, including 5 fifties, in 10 innings at an average of 50.40 and a healthy strike rate of 154.12.
It's not only the Orange Cap, even the Purple Cap is back with GT as Prasidh Krishna, the player of the match against SRH, moved to the top of the highest wicket-takers list for the season with two scalps in Ahmedabad.
Prasidh drew level with RCB's Josh Hazlewood in terms of wickets - 18, but the Indian pacer pipped the Australian quick to the top spot in Purple Cap leaderboard due to a better economy rate.
IPL's new Mr. Consistent, Sai Sudharsan added another record to his young career, having reached another milestone in T20 cricket. By completing 2000 runs in 54 T20 innings, Sai Sudharsan became the fastest Indian to the landmark.
Sai Sudharsan breezed past the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who had reached 2000 runs in 59 innings. The young Indian batter also became the second fastest overall to reach the milestone after Shaun Marsh, who had reached the feat in 53 innings.
Buttler, who has been consistently among the runs since 2022, completed 4000 IPL runs. With his rollicking 64 (37), the England star became the third quickest in terms of balls faced to reach the 4000-run mark in the cash-rich league.
Buttler took 2,677 balls to achieve the milestone, the third-fewest by a player after Chris Gayle (2,653) and AB de Villiers (2,658). Buttler also became the fifth overseas player to reach the landmark after David Warner, Gayle, De Villiers and Faf Du Plessis.
Gujarat Titans registered their best ever powerplay score as openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, combined to score 82 runs in the first six-over phase, which bettered the 78 runs the team scored against Lucknow Super Giants in 2023.
GT skipper risks being penalised after his actions during the match against SRH in Ahmedabad. Gill was first seen in a verbal altercation with the fourth umpire after a controversial run out decision from the TV umpire ended his stay at 76 off 38 balls. Gill was once again seen arguing with the on-field officials when it was GT's turn to take the field.
Already out of contention in the playoff race, Mahendra Singh Dhoni's side will seek revenge and hope to put a dent in Royal Challengers Bengaluru's playoff hopes when the souther rivals clash at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where the two teams collided in virtual knock out match last season.
Rain could possibly play spoilsport in the Southern derby of Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Chennai Super Kings with inclement weather over the past two days, indicating that we could have a truncated game or even wash out on the cards tonight in Bengaluru.
