NFL Playoffs: What each team needs to do to make it to 2024 Playoffs?

By MyKhel Staff

To qualify for the 2024 NFL playoffs, teams must navigate a competitive landscape defined by division standings and overall records. The playoffs consist of 14 teams—seven from the American Football Conference (AFC) and seven from the National Football Conference (NFC).

Here’s a breakdown of what each team needs to do to secure a playoff berth.

NFL Playoffs Scenario

AFC Playoff Picture

Kansas City Chiefs (13-1): Clinched the AFC West. They can secure the No. 1 seed by winning against the Texans or if the Bills lose to the Patriots.

Buffalo Bills (11-3): Clinched the AFC East. They can clinch the No. 3 seed with a win against the Patriots combined with a Texans loss to the Chiefs.

Pittsburgh Steelers (10-4): Clinched a playoff spot. They can clinch the AFC North and No. 4 seed with a win against the Ravens.

Houston Texans (9-5): Clinched the AFC South but need to win their remaining games to maintain a high seed.

Baltimore Ravens (9-5): Can clinch a playoff spot by winning against the Steelers or if both the Dolphins and Colts lose.

Denver Broncos (9-5): A win over the Chargers guarantees them a playoff spot, while losses by both the Dolphins and Colts would also secure their position.

Los Angeles Chargers (8-6): Must defeat the Broncos and hope for losses from both the Dolphins and Colts to clinch a wild-card spot.

Indianapolis Colts (6-8), Miami Dolphins (6-8), Cincinnati Bengals (6-8): These teams are still in contention but require multiple favorable outcomes in their remaining games to secure playoff berths.

NFC Playoff Picture

Philadelphia Eagles: Currently leading their division, they can clinch their playoff spot with wins in their final games against divisional rivals.

San Francisco 49ers: As strong contenders in their division, they need to maintain their winning streak to secure a top seed.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: They are vying for a wild-card spot and must win their remaining games while hoping for losses from teams like the Packers and Vikings.

Minnesota Vikings: Currently positioned for a wild-card spot, they need to win out and hope for favorable results from other contenders.

Green Bay Packers: They can clinch a playoff berth by defeating the Saints or relying on losses from other competing teams such as the Falcons and Rams.

Washington Commanders: Their path involves defeating the Eagles while needing losses from both the Falcons and Rams in their remaining games.

Atlanta Falcons: They must win against lower-seeded opponents while hoping other results go in their favor to maintain any hope of reaching the playoffs.

Playoff Format Overview

The NFL playoffs consist of four rounds:

The wild-card round features matchups between seeds 2 through 7.

The top seed in each conference receives a bye during this round.

Winners advance to the divisional round, followed by conference championships, culminating in Super Bowl LVIII on February 11, 2024.

As teams approach the end of the regular season, every game becomes crucial for playoff aspirations. The combination of winning games and relying on other teams' performances will determine who advances to compete for the Vince Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl LVIII. Each team's strategy will hinge not only on their performance but also on how rivals fare in these final weeks of competition.
